Recipe: Smoky Salsa

Salsa: Every time I make it from scratch, I wonder why I ever by a jar from a grocery store!

This salsa is smoky and delicious! It comes together so quickly and it is so full of flavor. If you are in the mood for chips and salsa - then keep on reading!

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Ingredients

  • Around 1/2 cup of chopped onion (white or yellow)

  • 1 clove of garlic (chopped or minced)

  • 1 14 ounce can of roasted diced tomatoes

  • 2-3 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce

  • 1/2 jalapeno (remove seeds and whites for a milder taste)

  • cilantro leaves (it’s hard to measure these, so start with a few and then add more for garnish, if needed)

  • 1 lime (juiced - and maybe a second lime for later in case you want to add more)

  • salt & pepper to taste

*Don’t stress too much about using the exact measurements of anything on this list. I suggest you lean on the light side of all the ingredients. It’s much simpler to add more flavor in the end than it is to remove a flavor.

  1. Chop or mince the garlic.

  2. Roughly chop the jalapeno.

  3. Add all ingredients to a blender or food processor.

  4. Carefully pulse until combined.

  5. Give it a taste and add more of anything its missing. Or leave it as is if you nailed it!

Ideas for Serving

Entertaining: Make it fancy by displaying it on a wooden board with a cute bowl. Pour the chips out of the bag and garnish with some extra cilantro and lime wedges.

Keep It Simple: Dump it in a bowl, open a bag of your favorite tortilla chips, and devour it by yourself! That’s my top recommendation :)

Plays well with others: Add it to tacos, tortilla soup, taco salad, or any other mexican entree.

Gift It: Buy some cute jars and deliver this smoky goodness to friends and family.

Store It: Pour leftovers in an airtight container and store in the refrigerator.

Happy Salsa-ing!
